Creative Movement

Kathleen Healy • Preschool-Kindergarten

Saturdays 9:30-11:00 Winter: 12 weeks beginning January 28th.

Fee: $240

Fun is the goal. Children develop physical control and listening skills through rhythm exercises, imagery, non-verbal storytelling singing and poetry! Kathleen Healy is a folk singer and songwriter with a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education who shares all these skills with our littlest students!

Creative Drama I

Bring the world of play into the theater: build concentration, communication, imagination and self-expression. Includes movement exercises, theater games in small and large groups, storytelling, and pantomime. Workshop concludes with a final demonstration.

Improve the young actor's theater skills through exercises and dramatizing stories. Improvisation for character development and ensemble work with scripts and original material. yoga for teen performers Elin Hirsh • Grades 8-12 Mondays 4:00-5:30 pm. Winter: 8 weeks TBA Fee: $180 This beginning level Hatha yoga class is a perfect compliment to performing classes or stands alone for one who wants to focus on the benefits of yoga.  Students will learn techniques for breath control; develop body awareness, strength and flexibility. Chakra work will also be emphasized. Students are asked to come dressed to move and bring a yoga mat or towel and yoga block.

Ever wanted to stretch your acting muscles? Become someone else for a day? Spend your winter creating characters through myriad of acting styles and techniques. From text analysis, various acting methods, scene study, improv exercises and so much more, you will enhance your actor's toolbox and gain power and depth as a performer!.

the candy dish writers

Are you someone who loves to write, but school writing assignments leave you uninspired? Tired of persuasive essays, rubrics, and test prep?  Then this is the writing class for you. The Candy Dish Writers will play with writing prompts, poetry, word games, and inventing characters each week.  You bring your notebook, flair for language, and imagination. Instructor Mary E. Cronin will bring the fun writing prompts, the thesaurus, and the candy dish for our writing table.

HJT winter Players

Ensemble building and text work! This workshop focuses on skills and materials necessary for live performance. Players will tour the final weeks of class!

Technical Theater Workshop

Explore the elements of set, sound, lighting design, stage craft and set construction for productions! Learn how to operate sound and light boards and crew for a show. All materials are included but students must provide their own safety goggles as they will learn to use various tools, including power tools.

Diana is the music teacher at Harwich Middle School and has been training voices for over 20 years. Diana believes in an athletic approach to singing, one in which the body is strengthened as a vehicle for resonance and styalistic nuance. For an appointment call 508-432-2002 x11.

Adult yoga

Elin Hirsh •

Fee: $180

This open –level Hatha yoga class will cover techniques for breath control; develop body awareness, strength and flexibility. Chakra work will also be emphasized as will stress reduction and relaxation. A perfect class for performers and non-performers in a peaceful non- competitive environment. Students are asked to come dressed to move and bring a yoga mat or towel and yoga block.

Class Enrollment Information
A minimum enrollment of 8 students is required for the class to run. The student/teacher ratio is 12:1 for most classes. A 10% discount is offered when a student combines two or more classes or if the students attend more than one session. Scholarships and work/study arrangements are available based on need. Summer sessions are either all eight weeks (July and August) or the four week sessions listed at the top of the page. Shorter term enrollments are offered subject to availability. Students will build coordination while getting mental and physical exercise and most importantly, having fun!  Prior juggling experience welcome but not necessary.  Individual learning styles and paces will be encouraged!  Each class will include time for building individual skills as well as group activities and games. This class meets at the new HJT Arts Center.

Monday-Friday 9:00am-12:00pm (this performance troope will meet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the HJT Arts Center and Tuesday and Thursday at the theatre.)

Fee: $300 (this fee covers costumes and travel)

Performance Class! The HJT Junior Players are now on the performance calendar at HJT. This ensemble of actors will continue to tour to parks and libraries but will also perform at HJT on Tuesday, Thursday mornings for 6 weeks! Auditions Saturday June 11 from 9-11am or Sunday, June 12 from 4-6pm at the HJT Arts Center 265 Sisson Ave. Please come with a 1 minute monologue.

There will also be an arts and crafts session, and dramatic play based on favorite stories and Fairy Tales. Please pack a snack for your youngster and get ready for fun at HJT! This class meets at the HJT Arts Center.

Friday Specials

Audition workshop   9am-12pm TBA
                              

This workshop will prepare the participant to walk in and sell themselves at any audition! Learn what to expect and how to prepare to give the director what they want.

Participants will work with Cape Director/Choreographer Lisa Canto who is a producer with One Brick Films in Los Angeles California and also the Lead Teacher at HJT.   The workshop will cover the day in the life of the auditioner from locating what roles are available and resumes /audition forms, head shot or no head shot, how to prep for auditions, to who is watching while I am waiting.  The workshop will look at the do's and don'ts of auditioning, building confidence, and practice how to listen and deliver. Fee:$30. Ages 9 and up

Fairy Tale Fun    9am-12pm TBA

In a fun environment of dress-up, props and make believe, favorite fairy tales are brought to life through the ageless "technique"of play! Your child will play with other fairy talers in the theatre of enchantment and enactment guided by fairy tale wisdom and expressive arts facilitator Barbara Johnson. Be treated at the close of class by a visit from Bromley and Jobbie-two 24 inch tall Baby Doll sheep! Baaaaa....Fee:$30. Ages 5-8

Sound Design for Theater  9am-12pm TBA

Imagine a movie without sound, or a silent video game, or a play without music and sound effects. There's one word for that...Dull! Sound Design has become the most compelling and rapidly evolving form of all the theater arts. Join our class and be a part of the excitement. Learn about basic audio and sound system concepts as well as computer audio editing and music production, sound effects, underscoring dialogue and playback for theater. Facilitated by resident sound designer J Hagenbuckle Fee:$30. Ages 10 and up

ShapeShifting Dance and Drama 9am-12pm TBA

This is a fun workshop for 8 to 12 year olds, in which we use the notion of shapeshifting, as found in folktale and myth, to evoke expressive movement. We warm-up with movement games to become familiar with the art of shapeshifting dance and then work into individual autobiographical story-dances. Finally we work with a shapeshifting folktale as basis for structured improvisation and performance. Fee: $30.

Becky Burrill is a dancer, artist, and educator and has a Massachusetts Certification in Elementary Education and a Doctorate in Education focusing on child development, movement, art-making, learning and literacy. Her work is based on the experience that learning is fundamentally a creative process, and that aesthetic sense is primary in the development of self, intelligence and well being.

Clowning Around    9am-12pm TBA

Boys and Girls! Step Right This Way! Don't miss this awesome opportunity to explore the wacky, wonderful world of the Circus Clown! Learn the FUN-damentals of physical comedy, improvisation, circus skills, water tossing, and the age-old secrets of the Great American Pie Fight! This workshop will be ably administered by Kristin and Jay Stewart, also known as The Seaside Clowns (appearing frequently at HJT!) These batty buffoons are veterans of The Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus-- and performers and instructors for the Ringling Clown College, The New York Goofs, and The Big Apple Circus Clown Care Program! Workshop to include instruction in comedic movement, Classic Clown gags, juggling, balancing, improvisation, and much more. And, Yes! You heard it right-- there'll be a big, messy pie fight! So Come One, Come All! Come have a ball with The Seaside Clowns at HJT!" Fee: $30. Ages 8-12

Refunds
Students withdrawing before the first class receive a full refund. Eight-week students withdrawing before the third class receive a 70% refund. Four-week students withdrawing before the second class receive a 70% refund. For summer classes meeting only once a week, eight-week students withdrawing before the second class receive a full refund.
