An Introduction to the Viewpoints

9am-12pm

An actor is more than the words coming out of his or her mouth. He is living in a real world on stage; she is responding to a variety of different stimuli all around her, from other actors, to sets, to the feeling of those very words coming out of her mouth. Developed by SITI Company’s Anne Bogart, the Viewpoints are an adaptation of choreographer Mary Overlie’s explorations of the body in space. This session will introduce you to the 9 Viewpoints and help you live more fully and multi-dimensionally on the stage. Taught by Mo Hanlon. COME DRESSED TO MOVE!

ShapeShifting Dance and Drama

9am-12pm

This is a fun workshop for 9 to 14 year olds, in which we use the notion of shapeshifting, as found in folktale and myth, to evoke expressive movement. We warm-up with movement games to become familiar with the art of shapeshifting dance and then work into individual autobiographical story-dances. Finally we work with a shapeshifting folktale as basis for structured improvisation and performance. Taught by Rebecca Burrill. Fee: $35.
